Bodegas Castaña vineyard

Day Trip to Bodegas Castaño

Dear Wine Group Member

Bodegas Castaño is located in Yecla, a small town in the north of the province of Murcia. Yecla has a clear different microclimate if compared with the rest of the province of Murcia, with minimum temperatures around –4/6ºC in normal winters and over 40ºC in summer. The average rainfall ranges from 250 to 350 litres per square metre a year and the annual sunshine rate is 3000 hours.

The Castaño family has always been considered a pioneer in the area, experimenting with the grape variety Monastrell to both create straight wines and blend it with other varieties, introducing the latest technology, not only in the vineyard but also in the winery, and implementing new quality systems that allow a more suitable winemaking.

Bodegas Castaño owns nearly 600 hectares of vineyards in different estates spread in D.O. Yecla. Our visit will include a walking tour in the vineyard Dominio Espinal.

We will leave Moraira at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, 28th June, stopping for coffee en route and will arrive at the bodega in time to meet our host at 11:30 a.m.

We will then have a walking tour of the vineyard, which will be followed by a visit to the winery.

At approximately 14:00 we will have lunch in the private dining room. The homemade meal will be paired with Familia Castaño wines.

After lunch, you will have time to visit the shop, where you will be able to purchase wines of your choice.

We will depart at approximately 16:45 and should arrive back in Moraira by no later than 19:30.

We have negotiated a special price for this visit and, based on the assumption that we will fill a 55-seater coach, the price will be 35 euros per person. This DOES NOT include a tip for the driver of the coach so we will be passing the hat around on the return journey home!
