Moraira-Teulada Walking Football group continued their impressive Tournament record at the La Nucia Stadium, Benidorm, on Wednesday 10th October when they won the Sockatyes trophy.
Following a slow start in the early stages of the twenty-game tournament the team found their rhythm and, in the eight matches they played, reached the all-important finals which they won
The tournament attracted a total of five teams from Spain including Moraira U3A, Portobello, Playa Flamenca, La Nucia and San Miguel Strollers and three English teams with the Chesterton Crusaders and two teams from Manchester.
On
their way to the final match Moraira beat
Chesterton 2-1 with goals from Andy Alderton and Nic Connor followed by a
magnificent 7-0 win against Portobello with Andy Alderton netting 4 times with
Ian Moffatt, Darren Godden, and Gary Rogan all adding to the total score.
Two teams from Manchester City had travelled over
2000 miles in the search for glory, only to meet an in form Moraira team who
won the semi-final 2-0 (Gary Rogan and Ian Moffatt) and triumphant in the final
by the same score line with Andy Alderton adding two more to his tally.
A special mention for the Captain, Malcolm Legg,
our touch line Coach, Dave Kelly and the Tournament’s top scorer, Andy Alderton.
