Minutes of the General Meeting held on 2nd June 2025
Welcome and Reminder of safety procedures.
Margaret March welcomed all attendees and pointed out the safety procedures.
Synopsis of the General Meeting held on 3rd March 2025.
Margaret March gave a synopsis of the last general meeting. Approval of the minutes was proposed by Eileen Haxon and seconded by Meri Snell.
Approval was by a show of hands.
President’s Address
Margaret said that there are now over 1500 members and members continue to enjoy the various group activities.
230 tickets have been sold for the Hog Roast on 6th June.
Treasurer’s Report.
Eileen Brown gave details of the bank balance at the end of May – 58,993-31€ in the bank and approximately 1000€ in cash. These figures include money for the Wine Group dinner (2500€+), Hog Roast (3395€), charity fund (1000€+) and travel group payments. All of these amounts will lower the balance when paid out.
There was a member query re finding the accounts on the website. These are not easy to find and Eileen Brown will liaise with Peter Bayliss re a better / easier link.
Groups.
Dining Out – one more couple is needed to organise 2 events per year.
Healthy Walking – more walk leaders are needed. Some people have now volunteered.
Creative Writing – this group has now started.
Travel
Eileen Brown gave details of the trips planned for 2025/26
June – Valencia day trip. This has proved to be very popular and a second coach has been booked.
June 19th – 22nd – Festival of Sawdust Carpets in Elche de La Sierra
September -Turkey – Cappadocia
September- Orange grove and paella lunch.
Autumn – Gandia Ducal Palace, Segunta lake
December – Munich Christmas markets – being costed and may include visits to the BMW and Siemens museums.
2026 –
March – Valencia fallas
China
Portugal
Social Events.
The Hog Roast will take place on 6th June at Font Santa.
Membership Liaison
Dennis Ainscough reported that he had nothing to report. Margaret March reiterated that Dennis’ role is not just for complaints but suggestions, comments and ideas.
Any other business
Dennis Ainscough explained the work of Project 4 All and described the people that the charity helps. He asked that members consider making regular monthly donations as this would enable the charity to get a mortgage to purchase a property rather than having to rent.
Eileen Haxon said that the next charity quiz would be in October or November.
As the planned speakers had not arrived the meeting closed at 10.55am.
