The Story of Texas, Illustrated by Its Architecture and Art

The Story of Texas, Illustrated by Its Architecture and Art

Texas has a rich history; the flags of six nations have flown over it: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States of America and the Confederate States of America.

Its prosperity was founded on the three Cs – cattle, cotton and crude. While cowboys and oilmen are part of the story, it also includes conquistadors and explorers; indigenous peoples and immigrant settlers; landowners and slaves; revolutionaries and war heroes; gangsters and assassins; and astronauts and colourful politicians.

The presentation will be illustrated by the state’s architecture and abundant art (sculptures, murals, posters and some gallery pictures) mostly in Austin, the state capital. It will also include some of the interesting and dramatic street art in Austin that has nothing at all to do with the state’s history.
