Save email on Smartphone

The Moraira-Teulada U3A will not be issuing membership cards in the future, so members are requested to either print off the receipt for membership or save the email to their smartphone, for production at Group meetings or for Discounts, for example.

This page describes three alternative methods to save an email on a smartphone so that it can be retrieved later. Members might also find these instructions useful for saving other important emails.

The instructions below should work for most smart phones. If the steps do not work for you, Google your phone model for instructions e.g. “Samsung A10 screenshot”

Android – Save email

Apple – Save email

For Android phones

e.g. Samsung etc.

Method 1. Add a flag e.g star

This is the simplest method provided that you can read your emails away from home. Most email apps have a way of adding a flag to an email so that it can be retrieved later.

The Gmail app for example, uses stars.

Method 2. Save the email in a folder

If the facility to star an email is not available on your phone, you could create a special folder, say U3A, and save the email there.

As an example of how to create a folder, instructions for Samsung Galaxy phones, can be found here in the section Creating and managing folders.

Method 3. Screenshot the viewed email.

Whilst the email is on the phone screen, press and hold the power key and the volume down key simultaneously.  The screen will flash and your screenshot will be saved.

Screenshots can then be found using your Gallery App or the Google Photos App.

Method 4. Save the email as a document

An alternative method of saving an email is to “print” it to a PDF file.

Whilst viewing the email, find the Print option. You may need to click on the three dots menu for example to find this.

Then find the Save as PDF or Print to PDF option. You may find this as an alternative printer.

Select Print or Download and you will then have to choose the folder for saving the PDF. Select Downloads.

The file can be retrieved later using the File Manager app on your phone.

For Apple iPhones and iPads

Method 1. Add a flag

This is the simplest method.

The instructions for using flags in Apple’s Mail app can be found here.

Method 2. Screenshot the viewed email.

Press the Home button and either the top or side button at the same time.  Screenshots can be found by going to the Photos App, then go to Albums>Screenshots.  More information https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200289
